Goals help us focus on achieving the things we want. Unfortunately, creating goals can be hard and maintaining them, even harder. To help you out, Moorelands Kids put together the following 5 tips to help you stay on track!
1. GOALS NEED A “WHAT” AND “WHY”
“What is my goal?”
When you ask yourself this question, try to give yourself a specific answer and define what you mean. By being clear and specific, you can better understand the steps for achieving the goal. This eliminates confusion, helps you stay organized and transforms your ideas into actions!
“Why is this my goal?”
Asking this question will connect your passion and enthusiasm to the goal you have. This gives your goal purpose—and motivation to stay on track!
2. WRITE YOUR GOALS
Visualize! If it’s in sight, it’s in mind
Have you ever heard the phrase “out of sight, out of mind”? If yes, then you’ll understand why this tip is key to staying on track with your goals. When you write down your goals, you should place them somewhere you can see and remember them. Stick them to your mirror, set it as your phone wallpaper or write them in your agenda!
Writing down and visualizing your goals…
- reminds you what your goals are;
- makes them real and tangible;
- and tells your subconscious that they are important to you.
3. SEEK COMMUNITY & SUPPORT
The best way to stay on track with your goals is to not do it alone
Moorelands Kids believes that learning, growing, and leadership happen in a community. To stay on track with your goals, tell a trustworthy person about the goals you have. They will encourage you to stay on track, provide a new perspective, and celebrate with you!
4. It’s a marathon, not a sprint!
Achieving your goals is a journey—and there will be obstacles!
The journey to staying on track with your goals has a lot of opportunities for learning and growing. The reality is, you might not attain what you want right away and it might not look like how you imagined. That is okay! Your goal will change because we are always changing. Be honest with yourself. Learn about what does and doesn’t work and apply changes to how you picture your goals.
5. REWARD YOURSELF
Self-care is necessary for success
Staying on track with your goals doesn’t have to feel boring or tiring! In fact, rewarding yourself is one of the best ways to reduce your stress and take care of yourself. By rewarding yourself, you can move forward with positivity and enthusiasm.
Some ways to celebrate and reward yourself might look like…
- reading your favourite book;
- enjoying a movie night with friends and family;
- eating your favourite meal;
- taking a relaxing hot bath;
- getting a new water bottle;
- going on a picnic;
- and so much more!
Moorelands Kids hopes that, with these 5 tips, you will stay on track with your goals, grow in leadership, and empower others along the way!
