Moorelands Camp: More than Just A Week Away

Are you thinking of going to camp this summer? Or are you a parent who is considering sending your child to overnight camp for their first time away? Perhaps you’re a university student wondering what all the hype is about working at camp. Is it really as great as everyone says? We have news for you all. It’s as amazing as you’ve heard…and MORE.

Summer camp is truly a life changing experience. Here are 5 things that will happen at camp:

You Will Make New Friends!

Everybody wants friendship. We all want connections with other people. We want to know people that we can trust, that we can make mistakes with, that we can be ourselves with. We want people in our lives who will encourage us, and who we can be cheerleaders for! At overnight camp, your child will be surrounded by caring leaders, encouraged and supported as they make new friends. If you’re a part of the Moorelands Camp staff team, you will make friendships that will last a lifetime.

You Will Learn New Skills and Experience New Adventures!

There is SO much to do at camp. You can try a sport you’ve never tried before, like basketball, or touch football. You could learn to canoe or kayak. You could create beautiful pieces of art during Arts and Crafts. You will learn cheers that you’ll sing and scream at the top of your lungs during ‘cheer-offs’ in the dining hall! Perhaps you’ll learn how to roast a hotdog over the fire, or hear loons calling on the lake at night for the first time. Perhaps you’ll even get to see the stars, billions and billions of them, far away from the bright lights of the city.

You Will Learn to be a Leader in Your Life!

Every week, and through every activity, campers learn about the Moorelands Kids Habits & Qualities. We believe that respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, trustworthiness and citizenship are the qualities of leaders. We teach children and staff that leaders are people who are proactive, set goals and prioritize first things first, who think win/win, who listen and understand and then seek to be understood, who believe that together is better and who care for themselves, inside and out. These are the ways that Moorelands campers and staff make changes in their own lives, and in their communities.

You Will Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone!

It’s not easy to try new things. It can be nervewracking, or even scary to go somewhere new and meet new people. You might think that you can’t climb to the top of the High Ropes course. You might think that swimming in the lake is creepy. All of these things might make you nervous. BUT…When you try new things, you might find courage that you never knew you had. When you push yourself out of your comfort zone, you might find that you LOVE swimming in the fresh, beautiful lake. When you face things that are scary, you might find out that the nerves of climbing to the top of the High Ropes course were worth it for the feeling of accomplishment you get when you reached the top! Trying new things can open your eyes to new passions, loves, and adventures!

You Will Create Memories to Last a Lifetime!

After your week away at summer camp, you will take home many things. You will take home new confidence, as you’ve tried new things. You will take home new competencies, as you have grown as a leader, ready to take those skills back to your family, school, and community. You will take home memories of crazy songs about ‘A Great Big Moose’, or raucous cheers from the boys’ end or girls’ end that you’ll remember forever. You’ll take home the memories of wild games, crazy costumes, and silly activities that will always make you smile. You’ll take home the growth you’ve had as you’ve grown and developed your character. You’ll take home new connections; staff who cared for campers, encouraged them, and pushed them to be their best. Friends who could last a lifetime.
