Moorelands Camp is a Leadership Skills Development Program!
At camp, we offer a meaningful program focused on developing each camper’s leadership skills. Every day we focus on a different positive leadership habit and quality to develop skills. Through experience-based learning and fun activities, campers learn how to apply each habit and quality to their everyday lives. Our goal is for each camper to return to the city with the skills to be a leader in their home, school, and community.
Moorelands Camp provides opportunities for campers to:
- Be physically active
- Choose programs
- Develop character
- Gain leadership skills
- Practice social skills
Campers are transported to Moorelands Camp from two Toronto sites.
Buses leave Toronto and arrive at the marina. From the marina there is a 5-minute boat ride to the camp. At the end of the camp session, the bus arrives back in Toronto where parents/guardians pick up their campers. Transportation costs are included in the subsidized camp fees. Details regarding time and location will be mailed or sent electronically to you with your confirmation package.
Parents of campers who leave the program early will need to arrange transportation from Moorelands Camp back home for their child.
There are cabins in each of the boys and girls sections which are located on different sides of the camp. Campers of a similar grade and same sex share a cabin with up to nine other cabin mates and two staff leaders.
We work with your child to help them settle into camp and feel a part of the community. We want them to feel safe. If the situation remains unchanged, we will contact you.
We provide nutritious meals based on Canada’s Food Guide. There is a hot food option at every meal and salad is offered at lunch and supper. Vegetarian alternatives are available. If your child has special medical or other dietary needs, please call us to discuss the situation. Moorelands Camp is nut aware.
Our Directors have provided leadership at Moorelands Camp for over 20 years. Summer staff members are generally college and university students who have a true desire to enrich the lives of children and youth. The staff team is trained in First Aid, Positive Youth Development, safety procedures and have each submitted a clear Criminal Reference Check. Program staff have current qualifications pertaining to the specialty they teach. All staff are involved in an intensive pre-camp training program to ensure they are ready to provide your child with a safe, meaningful and fun learning experience.
Campers are supervised by Moorelands Kids’ staff 24 hours a day. Each cabin has two leaders and the overall staff to camper ratio is 1:2.
We care for your kids! Health and Safety is #1
Campers need an Ontario Health Card or alternative. Upon arrival, each camper is seen by the camp nurse for a basic health check. All medication is kept in the health centre and is dispensed by Health Care Staff who are at the camp 24 hours a day. All staff are trained in First Aid.
If you currently do not possess an Ontario Health Card or alternate, please contact us before applying to camp.
