Spike one in for the wonderful Articling and Summer Student volunteers of McCarthy Tétrault LLP!
Moorelands is so very grateful that we were once again the beneficiaries of the ANNUAL BAY STREET BEACH VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT! This year the tournament, which I think everyone would agree was a resounding success, raised a whopping $13,857.60 for Moorelands’ Budding Leaders After-school Teams (BLAST). The weather was great, the games were exciting and well-played, and the pizza and granola bars were plentiful. But most importantly, it was a fun day that raised a lot of money for Moorelands’ BLAST program which helps kids from Thorncliffe Park and Flemingdon Park develop the confidence, competence, character and connections they need to thrive in life.
Moorelands would like to thank McCarthy Tétrault LLP for hosting the tournament and each participating firm whose registration fees made up the bulk of the donation. Congratulations to the tournament champion, the Notorious BLG, who were not only the winners on the courts, but also raised the most money of any firm in the tournament. An amazing double victory, so congrats to Team Borden Ladner Gervais! Also a special thank you to the McCarthy Tétrault articling students who formed the Organizing Committee – without all of your work and support, the event would not have been possible.
McCarthy Tétrault not only partnered with us as fundraisers, many of their students also rolled up their sleeves and helped out at the BLAST Pan Am/Parapan Am day workshop on June 2nd 2015. Thanks to the volunteers from McCarthy Tétrault’s summer and articling student programs, our kids enjoyed the most immense Pan Am day extravaganza! With the help of the volunteers, BLAST kids learned sports skills from three Pan Am/Parapan Am sports: Badminton, Bochi and Volleyball. They also came up with team names and cheers and spread Pan Am/Parapan Am team spirit! The day was so much fun and our kids got to practise character traits like good sportsmanship, respect and fairness. Check out the gallery below to see some of the fun:
