A Letter from our Board President and Executive Director

In 2023 Moorelands Kids was committed to ‘building back’ on so many levels, including building back the number of children and youth able to access both Moorelands Camp and Moorelands city programs so as to ‘serve more kids, serve kids more”. Through engagement with community partners, as well as government representatives and local authorities, we endeavoured to elevate the visibility of our unique experiential leadership programs…

2023 Wrapped Up

In 2023, with the help of our generous community of friends and supporters, we welcomed 427 campers for an unforgettable summer at Moorelands Camp. We supported 157 families during the holidays and raised over $76,000 during our annual Giving Tuesday campaign. All of this makes a profound difference in the lives of children and youth in our programs.

Our Community of Supporters

As we reflect on the past year, we are filled with gratitude for the Moorelands community of supporters who have invested financially in our work and mission, while also volunteering their time and expertise with us. Without your support we could not achieve such positive outcomes for the children and youth in our City and Camp programs. Thank you!

The 2023 Toronto Vital Signs report once again sheds light on the challenges faced by the families that we serve. Income inequality is at an all-time high, with a rise in reported income insufficiency from 21% in 2018 to 33% in 2023. In the face of such economic uncertainty for families, Moorelands Kids remained steadfast in our commitment to offer significantly subsidized leadership programming. As a result, we were able to increase the number of children and youth from low-income families that to explore and realize their unique potential for success through these programs.

Last year posed some challenging circumstances in terms of fundraising in light of various factors. Some foundations and corporations changed their funding focus, capped their funding and also implemented changes to reduce frequency of funding. As part of our 5-year Strategic Plan we implemented a Corporate Acquisition Strategy in order to build on our funding relationships, so as to sustain our financial integrity as an organization. This was instrumental in recognizing the work needed to rebuild funding pipelines, while unearthing new funding possibilities for Moorelands Kids.

We also engaged in a new branding strategy so as to advance our efforts in elevating the visibility of Moorelands Kids. This was integral in modernizing our approach to communications with families and funders, so as to engage more children and youth in programs, as well as attracting new funders. Our hope is that through these efforts, and with the consistent and dedicated support of those in our Moorelands community, we can continue to create positive leadership and social pathways for children and youth to realize their potential to succeed at home, at school, and in their communities.

Thank you for your steadfast support!
