Moorelands is so very grateful for the amazing hard work and effort put in by the fabulous Starry Summer Night Bash Committee. The Starry Summer Night Bash 2017 on August 19th was not only a magical night, it exceeded its goal of raising $115,000 for camp! This group of volunteers is made up of our camp neighbours – cottagers on Kawagama Lake – who give up their time, talent and treasures to create a spectacular fundraising party for camp!
Thank you to all of the guests, sponsors, donors, volunteers and staff who made Starry Summer Night 2017 an unforgettable night that sent 102 kids to Moorelands Camp.
A message from The Starry Summer Night Committee:
What a great night! Despite the crazy weather, 200+ guests attended Starry Summer Night 2017. Everyone made the evening that much more enjoyable by really engaging in and dressing up in Canadiana costumes with the room a sea of red and white. Live jazz, raffle and costume prizes, delicious food, cottage camaraderie and plenty of fun was had by everyone. Guests also had a chance to hear first hand from Autumn, a brilliant guest speaker, camp counsellor and leader. You could have heard a pin drop as she moved the crowd with how being able to attend Moorelands Camp can certainly be a positive life changing experience for a child growing up. We were all inspired by her comments.
Emcee and cottager, Adrien McInerney got the crowd warmed up for auctioneer Wally James, of Apsley Auctions, as Wally showed our guests the many advantages and benefits of taking home one of the 16 live auction items.Wally also encouraged and challenged the crowd to remember why we were all there –to send 100 kids to camp. It got a little loud as some lively bidding took place, but in the end, when we tally up the totals, we are thrilled to say we reached our goal of sending 100 kids to camp. Incredible silent auction items from more than 35 donors also made for some lively bidding. (Link) We are incredibly grateful to our generous donors and committed sponsors- Muskoka Brewery, Flat Rock Cellars, ICON Digital, Mountain Trout House, and Old Mill Marina. We truly couldn’t do it without you.A special shout out to the many volunteers – water taxi drivers, photographer, servers, popcorn makers, raffle ticket sellers and pizza makers for stepping up yet again for Moorelands Camp. And to the staff at Moorelands for being the best support to us. You really make the evening special.
To our big-hearted and charitable guests- thank you for being so generous, enthusiastic and recognizing for the last three Starry Summer Night events, that collectively, we can make a difference. And a big thank you to Mother Nature, who finally cooperated and gave us a Starry Summer night in the end.
We hope you can join us next year on August 18, 2018!
