Hey Moorelands!
We are so excited to announce that tickets ($150) for our event – ‘Get Jazzed About Moorelands’ – starring the phenomenal Molly Johnson, are on sale now! We would love for you to join us for this intimate evening with Juno award-winning jazz legend Molly Johnson, also featuring Tyler Yarema. Not only will you be in for a fantastic night of music, gourmet food, a host bar and live & silent auctions, but all proceeds will go to supporting Moorelands and our vital programs bridging the opportunity gap for Toronto children and youth.
Don’t forgot that you are also invited to our AGM 2015 at the offices of Faskin Martineau LLP, downtown at Bay and Adelaide, on April 15th. It’s a great way to involved with our Moorelands community, meet fellow supporters, hear about our progress in 2014 and discuss how we can make 2015 even brighter! So, if you can make it, please do join us.

We promised you an update on the fundraising total of Laugh out Loud in Leaside #6. Well, we’re very pleased to announce that LOLL#6 raised $37,000 for Moorelands Community Services! This money will support our Budding Leaders After-school Teams in the neighbouring communities of Thorncliffe Park and Flemingdon Park. We’re overwhelmed by this generosity and so grateful to all the organizers, donors and everyone who attended the event. THANK YOU! It was a wonderful night. Especially in light of the fact our own Moorelander, Michelle, won a prize! She held the winning ticket for the Crack The Code draw and walked away with a $500 gift card from Direct Repair on Laird and a $200 gift card from the Leaside Pub, amazing!

Last week at BLAST Thorncliffe, participants demonstrated their excellent sharing skills and let their creativity shine as they enjoyed Pirate week! Over the week they shared resources and supported each other to make pirate costumes and took part in drama activities which built their self-confidence. Check out our fearsome BLAST Thorncliffe pirates – Ahoy, mateys!
Over at BLAST Gateway, the program leaders introduced a new game: ‘Moving Pictionary’. Similar to regular Pictionary, participants had to use their art skills to depict a word to their team. However, ‘Moving Pictionary’, has an added element of physical activity as participants have to ‘tag’ the leaders in order to find out the next word to draw. So in once great activity, our kids developed and improved their team work skills, practiced drawing skills and also got to keep active – brilliant!
BLAST Grenoble participants were similarly kept on their toes as they played one of their favourite games: Castle! This game requires a ton of teamwork as participants are split into two teams and have to employ a high degree of strategy to get their whole team to safety on the bench. Our participants showed great sportsmanship while they worked together to achieve their goal and then shook hands with every single member of the opposing team at the end! Well done BLAST Grenoble!
We’re looking forward to sharing more updates with you about our programs and even more alumni stories over the coming weeks. Stay tuned and don’t forget to buy your tickets to Get Jazzed About Moorelands!
