Hey Moorelands!
It’s been a busy few weeks at Moorelands with tons of planning afoot for lots of exciting events on the horizon. First up, this Friday (Feb, 27) we are so excited to join the lovely folks at Laugh out Loud in Leaside for their 6th annual comedy event, this year benefiting Moorelands! The event is sold out and it looks set to be a really fun evening of comedy, food and fantastic company. We can’t thank Charlene Kalia or the team at Laugh out Loud in Leaside enough for their generous support!
We are also looking forward to our next Annual General Meeting on April 15th. And invite you all to join us! Find out more details about time and location here. The theme for this year is ‘Building Community, Transforming Lives’. At Moorelands, one of the most important aspects of our culture is community building. Our intention is to build a respectful, safe, supportive and diverse community that celebrates and helps develop the strengths of each individual member. We believe that being part of a caring community can have a transformative effect on the children and youth we serve. So why not join us at our AGM to become more connected to our community and have a say on the future of our organisation?
We are also SUPER SUPER SUPER excited to give you a sneak preview of our upcoming Gala event in May 2015…Get Jazzed about Moorelands featuring Juno award winning singer, Molly Johnson! It’s going to be a wonderful opportunity to support Moorelands and meet more members of our brilliant community all whilst enjoying fantastic music, mouth-watering cocktails and delicious food! Moorelands is so honoured to have such a celebrated musical talent supporting our cause. Tickets ($150) will be available soon, so keep checking back on the upcoming events page for updates.
The last event we would like to tell you about is the Spring Auction at The Church of Christ the King (475 Rathburn Rd., Etobicoke) on Saturday March 28, 2015. The auction, with proceeds helping Moorelands, will have new/treasured items and services up for grabs as well as refreshments and entertainment. Registration is at 6pm with the auction starting at 7pm and you can buy tickets ($5) in advance by calling 416 621 3630. We’d like to thank Nancy-Lou Farrell and the organizers at the Church of Christ the King for making Moorelands the beneficiary of their auction.
Over at our programs, love was in the air at BLAST Gateway this past week, as participants celebrated their community and Valentine’s day by making sugar cookies and writing encouragement notes in everyone’s Valentine’s card. The kids were so enthusiastic about spreading kind words to each other and really demonstrated the strength of their connections and their positive peer relationships!
At BLAST Grenoble, our budding scientists did a lava lamp experiment… Reusing empty plastic bottles and a few other simple ingredients such as vegetable oil, water, food colouring and Alka-Seltzer tablets, our participants made their very own lava lamps! They also learned about the science behind the hypnotic, colourful bubbles – the fact that the different states of matter have different densities. Great work BLAST Grenoble! Meanwhile at BLAST Thorncliffe, participants showed excellent sportsmanship as they honed their bench soccer skills.
Finally, the summer is quickly approaching and Wilderness Camp is still seeking dynamic staff to join our wonderful team.
