Did you know that summer learning loss disproportionately affects low-income students?
It’s called the “summer slide” and it’s what often happens to disadvantaged kids over the summer. While higher-income children continuously build skills over the school holiday, children from lower-income families tread water (at best) or even fall behind.
In 2019, we’re piloting Project DIVE at our subsidized overnight Moorelands Camp – a two-week program for those kids that demonstrate leadership ability, a desire to grow and a willingness to apply the Moorelands Kids’ Leadership Habits & Qualities.
One week at camp is GREAT but two weeks will provide an additional week of nature, nurture and learning for those children who really need it. Kids like Alex, who told us,
“Two weeks at camp would make me so happy! Last year I learned about respect and responsibility but it felt like I was adapting and learning so much, then I had to go home. If I got to go for two weeks, I would learn so much more!” Alex, age 12.
