Raj’s Send a Kid to Camp Fundraiser
PLEASE JOIN ME: GIVE A CHILD-IN-NEED A SUMMER THAT CAN CHANGE THEIR FUTURE…
This summer, I’m raising money for a cause that’s close to my heart: sending kids to Moorelands Camp.
Did you know that 1/4 of Toronto kids are living in poverty?
For these kids, the summer ahead won’t be filled with fun, new experiences or nature adventures. They won’t have the chance to learn and grow in a safe positive setting that teaches them to make good choices and strengthen their skills.
Check out this video to see why kids love Moorelands Camp!
The summer ahead is still uncertain but Moorelands Kids is well prepared. While they anticipate campers will have the opportunity to attend in person, they are preparing for a range of scenarios and there are also plans in place to run an online camp to supplement in-person initiatives. With all of the stresses caused by Covid-19 — along with the regular stresses of living in poverty and in isolation — children need the kind of supportive environment Moorelands Camp provides.
I wanted to share Hope and Mary’s story with you – two sisters who really want to go to Moorelands Camp this summer – something that we can make happen, together.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, Moorelands anticipates the province will restrict the number of campers to 300, that’s less than half the campers in 2019. They believe that local health units will also mandate extra costs for the health and safety of the campers. The combination of fixed costs, COVID safety measures and fewer campers means it will cost $1,530 to send a kid to camp – an amount that puts Moorelands closer to what a traditional camp costs.
On the May 24 weekend, I will be showing my personal commitment to the Send a Kid to Camp Campaign with a Day of Action (more details to come!)
I hope you will join me now in making a donation to ensure that Hope, Mary, and other kids like them will get to camp this summer. Let’s join together to make sure no child has to spend their summer indoors and alone.
With much appreciation in advance,
FROM THE HOT CITY STREETS TO MOORELANDS CAMP!
Tucked away on 45 acres of sandy beaches and dense forests, accessible only by boat, is Moorelands Camp. A gem in the Algonquin Highlands, each summer our summer camp welcomes 700 children and youth from some of the poorest neighbourhoods in Toronto.
Swimming, canoeing, music, kayaking, archery, ropes courses, arts and crafts and overnight tripping… the spirit of the wilderness! And build into all this fun are character and leadership lessons – communication, teamwork, problem solving and goal setting – the development of skills necessary for life success!
Staff care deeply about the campers, supporting them as they practise positive interactions with each other and with adults, and celebrating their achievements. Campers return home bursting with great stories of their personal accomplishments, new leadership skills and wonderful memories.
