Sometimes the words “philanthropy” and “charity” are used interchangeably but there is a difference. Charity actually refers to a short-term, empathetic response to an immediate problem or issue (for example, giving food to someone who is hungry), while philanthropy is a more strategic process of giving that tries to address the root causes of systemic issues and make the world a better place (for example, addressing the reason why someone is hungry).
