why philanthropy is important - coming together to make a big impact!

Why Philanthropy is Important

Philanthropy means “love for humankind”. The word has its origins in the Greek “philos,” (loving) and “anthropos,” (humankind). Sometimes the words “philanthropy” and “charity” are used interchangeably but there is a difference. Charity actually refers to a short-term, empathetic response to an immediate problem or issue (for example, giving food to someone who is hungry), while philanthropy is a more strategic process of giving that tries to address the root causes of systemic issues and make the world a better place (for example, addressing the reason why someone is hungry).

Philanthropy is important because it aims to find long term solutions to problems in our world

Giving and sharing with others is so important, no matter how you do it.

Philanthropy is especially important because it help brings a better version of the world to life.

The work that Moorelands Kids does is philanthropic because we provide opportunities for kids to develop the skills and habits they need to succeed and build a better life for themselves. But not only that, our programs also encourage kids to become engaged citizens who care about their community. When they leave our programs, their influence has a ripple effect on the community in which they live. None of what we do would be possible without our amazing donors!

Philanthropy is important to society because it helps make change possible and creates a better place for us all to live in. When you give to initiatives, like Moorelands Kids’ programs, that promote opportunity and long-term solutions, you not only help those in need but your gift has a multiplying effect and benefits society as a whole. It’s a win-win situation!

Business and Philanthropy

Plus, philanthropy makes good business sense too! Spreading kindness and opportunity is important. It can create a ripple effect that makes a huge positive impact on the lives of those in need. But it can also help businesses thrive: Customers increasingly want to engage with companies that reflect their own values. Philanthropic giving shows that an organization cares about our world and that they are actively trying to improve it. In short, it makes a business more attractive to its customers!

Thank you for caring

The work of charities, large and small, wouldn’t be possible without amazing philanthropic donors. We’re so grateful to everyone who donates to empower kids to transform their lives through Moorelands Kids’ programs. Thank you for caring and for believing in the work we do. None of this would be possible without your support!

An Update from Lynda on COVID-19

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation and public health advice to stay at home, Moorelands Kids’ office staff are working remotely and our office will be virtual until June 8th. Staff members are available by email or phone. Please visit our contact page to get in touch via email or our staff directory for a list of phone numbers.

On Tuesday, May 19th, the Government of Ontario announced that overnight camps must remain closed throughout the summer. While we are so sad that Moorelands Camp will not be able to run as usual this year, this news was not unexpected and we understand this decision: the safety of our campers and staff is always our first priority. We are refunding all camp deposits/fees already paid. Details have been emailed to registered camper families.

But we do have some good news! In anticipation of this announcement, we had already made extensive plans for a fun virtual camp experience and we’ll be Sending Camp to Kids this summer! More details coming soon including how to apply starting May 25th!

We commit to maintaining our beautiful camp property. We will continue to do everything we need to do to make sure that we can be at camp next year and for many more years to come! That’s why we need your support now more than ever. If you would like to make a donation, please click here or call: 416-466-9987 ext. 309.
