Frequently Asked Questions from Parents

Where do the children sleep?

There are cabins in each of the boys and girls sections which are located on different sides of the camp. Campers of a similar grade and same sex share a cabin with up to 9 other cabin mates and 2 staff leaders.

How long are the camp sessions?

All camps start on a Monday and end on a Saturday.

What if my child misses home?

We work with your child to help them settle into camp and feel a part of the community. We want them to feel safe. If the situation remains unchanged, we will contact you.

What is the food like?

We provide nutritious meals based on Canada’s Food Guide. There is a hot food option at every meal and salad is offered at lunch and supper. Vegetarian alternatives are available. If your child has special medical or other dietary needs, please call us to discuss the situation. Moorelands Camp is nut aware.

Who are your staff?

Our Directors have provided leadership at Moorelands Camp for over 20 years. Summer staff are generally college and university students who have a true desire to enrich the lives of children and youth. Staff are trained in First Aid, Positive Youth Development, Safety procedues and have submitted a clear Criminal Reference Check. Program staff have current qualifications pertaining to the specialty they teach. All staff are involved in an intensive pre-camp training program to ensure they are ready to provide your child with a safe, meaningful and fun learning experience.

How are the campers supervised?

Campers are supervised by Moorelands Kids staff 24 hours a day. Each cabin has 2 leaders and the overall staff to camper ratio is 1:2.

What will my child learn?

Working within a cabin group, Moorelands Camp focuses on leadership development. Every day we learn about and work on a different Moorelands Kids Leadership Habit and Quality through a variety of fun, experiential activities.

What if I don’t know anyone?

Camp is a great place to make new friends and try new things! Our staff will help you make friends and feel comfortable.

What are the bathrooms like? Are there showers?

We have toilets that flush and showers with hot and cold water.

Where will I eat?

Each cabin group has its own table in the dining hall where meals are eaten. There’s lots of good food and of course desserts! The dining hall is a fun place!

What if I have a problem?

You can talk to your cabin leaders, the program staff or the Directors. Camp staff are there to help you. We want you to have a great time and enjoy camp.

Do I have to swim?

Yes! Our lake is beautiful and clean. On the first day of camp, all campers show us their swimming ability and work to improve their swimming skills every day at our Ports Toronto beach on site.

How many kids will be in my cabin group?

Typically you will have 8 or 9 cabin mates.How many other kids will be at camp? There will be about 100 other campers! Lots of new friends!
