Making This Holiday Season Special

Moorelands Kids has changed the name of our ‘Christmas Sharing’ program to ‘Holiday Sharing’ in order to embrace the diversity of families served within Moorelands’ community. We invite you to extend your support and help make a meaningful difference by participating in our Holiday Sharing 2023 program. There are three ways that you can give back to a disadvantaged family in Toronto during the holidays:

Adopt-a-Family – Thanks to the generosity of our donors and supporters, all of our families have been adopted for 2023, but please consider supporting our other holiday programs:

Mitts & a Movie – To ensure teenagers receive the same amount of cheer during the holiday season, we offer an intentional initiative for youth in our after-school programs. With your minimum donation of $75, a teenager will receive a movie gift card and a pair of mittens as a gift. Learn more here.

Top Up the Pantry – With your generous donation of a minimum of $50, we can assist with grocery gift cards for families that are facing economic barriers. Learn more here.

“Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and generosity. You have no idea how much it means to us both.”

– Michelle and Kayla

A Season of Thanks

Gratitude is a choice that may often seem like a challenge in our current world situation. Yet as we look closer to home at our Moorelands community, we see children and youth from many cultures playing and learning together, and staff from diverse backgrounds working side by side collaboratively.

When we endeavour to consider others, the results can be positive. The Moorelands Kids community is a place where each person can feel a sense of belonging—where you know someone is standing with you. We are all encouraged when we have an attitude of gratitude.

We are thankful for your support, and as we move from a season of thanks to the holiday season of giving, we want to acknowledge the value of our connected, committed community.

We are truly grateful for all our families, friends, volunteers as well as staff who each strengthen the Moorelands community in their own unique way.

Sincerely,

Lynda Tilley

WWPC – Giving Back Globally

Since 2011, the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) has been supporting disadvantaged children all over the world. In 2023, WWPC held their 21st International Conference in Toronto. Having researched various children’s charities in the city, they chose to partner with Moorelands Kids.

“During visits to different countries with my wife, Maarit, we saw the harsh conditions for children and their parents, and it left a huge impact on us. None of our members are born rich or wealthy, but together we can achieve some small relief.” – Wolfgang Karau, Director at WWPC Ltd.

Moorelands Kids is sincerely thankful for WWPC’s generous donation of $25,000 USD and for the privilege of speaking at the WWPC conference about our experiential leadership programs.

With the support of WWPC, we can continue to support children and youth facing socio-economic barriers to develop the skills and tools needed to strengthen their emotional and social well-being.

Giving Tuesday: A Kindness Movement

Giving Tuesday, on November 28th, stands as a global generosity movement that encourages support of charitable causes.

For Moorelands Kids, Giving Tuesday is a significant opportunity to rally community support to help kids realize their potential to succeed. This continues to be a vital campaign for us, year after year. In 2022, with your support, we raised over $150,000, demonstrating the power of collective kindness in action.

This year, Moorelands Kids has once again partnered with our long-time friends, the Ward Family Foundation, for our Giving Tuesday matching campaign. Our fundraising goal is set at $100,000, with donations matched up to $35,000. Donations will be accepted until November 30th.

Funds raised during this campaign augment our skill-building programs, help send kids to camp in the summer, and support them throughout the school year in our after-school programs. These funds also provide crucial assistance to families during the holiday season.

We once again thank the Ward Family Foundation along with our Moorelands community for choosing kindness and generosity in making this annual Giving Tuesday a resounding success.

“I think it is a beautiful thing to help people, especially around the holidays and when people are struggling.”

– Molly, Holiday Sharing volunteer

Our Volunteers Make Fall Fun

Moorelands Kids had another successful Festi-Fall this October, and the credit goes to our dedicated corporate volunteers from Choice Properties and MNP who worked alongside teenage volunteers from the Moorelands Kids’ VITAL program.

Every child who attended this year’s Festi-Fall event received a backpack to help equip them for school success.

“My favourite part about volunteering for Moorelands Kids is meeting new people; it is interesting to hear stories, journeys and to have one-on-one interaction. One word that comes to mind to describe Moorelands is ‘enthusiasm.’ I see the kids walk in here, and they are really happy.”

Veronica, a volunteer from MNP

Teaming Up with TMX Group for the Holidays

The holidays are a time for giving, spreading joy, and making a positive impact on those around us. It’s a time when communities come together to support each other, and for the past several years, TMX Group has partnered with Moorelands Kids to make a difference through our Adopt-a-Family program. Cristina Caldaroni, Manager of Investigative Services, explains what this means to the company:

Moorelands is a great example of the work that TMX is proud to support — it’s a local charity providing direct and continued support to families in need in Toronto. Moorelands has built a network of trust in the community, and it reflects the same values of Trust and Courage that are so important to us at TMX.

Adopt-a-Family is a great way to give back, and it helps our team members feel connected to each other. Each team tries to personalize their gift donation boxes, and the families we buy for really become part of our own families.

TMX is committed to supporting the communities in which we live and work, and Moorelands allows us to be a part of real change by helping children and their families. We hope that through our support, we can contribute to the impact that Moorelands has on so many people.
