Danny’s Send a Kid to Camp Fundraiser

PLEASE JOIN ME: GIVE A CHILD-IN-NEED A SUMMER THAT CAN CHANGE THEIR FUTURE…

I made a commitment to join the board of an incredible organization a few years ago called Moorelands Kids. In 2019 we were awarded the designation of “Top 100  Charities in Canada” by Ci, and we have held that designation ever since.

Moorelands Kids’ purpose resonates with me on many levels.  Most important to me is that it is built on the foundation that every child, regardless of their economic circumstances, has the right to succeed in life.  This purpose is brought to life by providing kids from the Toronto area who face economic marginalization with the opportunity to spend a week at Moorelands Camp. For over 105 years, Moorelands’ campers have learned life skills and formed long-lasting friendships and memories, surrounded by the beauty of Kawagama Lake.

As a child, I was fortunate to live in an area of Ontario where I enjoyed and developed an appreciation for the natural world. My family did a lot of camping, so I know from personal experience that this summer camp opportunity can be profound and life-changing for a child. Those summers allowed me to form friendships and create happy memories that will never fade.

Every year at this time, I am reminded of how lucky I was to have had those experiences. Building skills and forming friendships in a safe and natural setting is a wonderful gift.

Moorelands Camp helps children develop the habits and qualities that empower them and build confidence, giving them the tools to make great choices for their lives. Learning about personal leadership and leadership in communities sets the foundation for success in every aspect of life ahead.

Please join me in bringing the joys, friendships, and life lessons of summer camp to Toronto kids facing economic barriers. Contribute to Moorelands Kids’ Send-a-Kid to Camp Campaign.  It costs $1650 to send a kid to camp, but any amount you choose to give will make a difference.

With Much Appreciation,

Moorelands Campers coming back to Kawagama Lake

From the hot city streets to Moorelands Camp!

Tucked away on 45 acres of sandy beaches and dense forests, accessible only by boat, is Moorelands Camp. A gem in the Algonquin Highlands, each summer our summer camp welcomes 700 children and youth from some of the poorest neighbourhoods in Toronto.

Swimming, canoeing, music, kayaking, archery, ropes courses, arts and crafts and overnight tripping… the spirit of the wilderness! And build into all this fun are character and leadership lessons – communication, teamwork, problem solving and goal setting – the development of skills necessary for life success!

Staff care deeply about the campers, supporting them as they practise positive interactions with each other and with adults, and celebrating their achievements. Campers return home bursting with great stories of their personal accomplishments, new leadership skills and wonderful memories.
