Wilderness Camp Summer Positions

We hire staff with a variety of skills, gifts and abilities. Staff training is mandatory. Minimum staff age is 18 yrs.

 

NOTE: Moorelands Wilderness Camp is smoke free, alcohol free and drug free.

1. Cabin Life

Cabin Leaders (male and female)

Dates of Employment: June 23 - August 25, 2012

Cabin Leaders work in pairs and are responsible for the health, safety and acceptance of each camper in the cabin group. They live in the cabin with the campers and are role models, 24/7. Cabin Leaders program some activities, assist with caring for the camp facility (community care) and may teach in program areas.

Qualifications

  • Current Bronze Cross or Standard First Aid
  • A sincere desire and ability to work with children in an outdoor setting
  • Experience leading children's programming

Section Heads (2 male and 2 female)

Dates of Employment: June 1 - August 27, 2012

Section Heads are responsible for eight cabin groups, their cabin leaders and campers. In addition to training, supervising and supporting cabin leaders, Section Heads provide support to cabin groups and organize sections programming.

Qualifications

  • Current Bronze Cross or Standard First Aid
  • Excellent leadership, supervision and organizational skills.
  • Supervisory Experience
  • Possess the personal, emotional, and vocational resources needed to be effective working with staff and children in a demanding setting

2. Program Staff

Program Coordinators (1 male and 1 female)

Dates of Employment: May 28 - August 27, 2012

Program Coordinators assist in summer planning, ensures implementation of and evaluates camp program areas, oversees program staff, and assists with training and program development.

Qualifications

  • Current Bronze Cross or Standard First Aid
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and supervisory skills
  • Working knowledge of all program areas at camp; hold relevant certifications
  • 2 years relevant experience
  • Knowledge of OCA standards
  • Possess the person, emotional and vocational resources needed to be effective working with staff and children in a demanding setting.

Program Area Heads

Dates of Employment: June 10 or 16 - August 28/29, 2012 (depends on position)

Area Heads are responsible for developing and implementing programs in their specific areas following guidelines that fulfill our camp goals. All program leaders are responsible for running creative, safe, effective programs and supervising staff and participants.

Floats are qualified to lead in at least 3 program areas - Waterfront, Skin diving, Canoeing, Out-tripping, Outdoor Living Skills, Kayaking, Art & Crafts, Sports, Archery, Vocal music and Cabin Life. Program Staff

Dates of Employment: June 16 - August 25, 2012

Program Staff assist the Area Heads to deliver creative, safe, fun and effective programs for participants. Although Program Staff are assigned a program area, they along with co-workers also lead all-camp and section games, songs and skits in the dining hall and at campfires. Program staff are involved with a cabin group each session; eating meals, visiting their cabin etc.

3. Service Team

Dates of Employment: Full season starts as early as May 14 and ends as late as September 2, 2012
Summer season - June 16 - August 25, 2012
The Service Team supports the camp programs with a variety of services including: boat and vehicle driving, grounds keeping, managing food orders, garbage removal and security. They oversee washroom/shower maintenance and other regular daily operation routines.

4. Administration

Administration Assistant

Dates of Employment: May 28 - Aug 30, 2012
The Administrative Assistant provides reception services, manages office functions, assists with scheduling and provides clerical support to other departments.

5.Health Care Staff

The Health Care staff are responsible for the promotion of general health & safety of campers and staff. The Health Centre provides many services to the camp community including: health teaching, responding to emergencies, dispensing medication, care of routine health issues, staff training and first aid support.

Nurse (RN)

The nurse if responsible for the promotion of general health & safety of campers and staff.

Qualifications

  • RN licenced in Ontario
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Promote a healthy lifestyle and practice to staff and campers
  • Ability to work with a team and or independently as necessary in a demanding setting
