City Day Camp Program Jobs
The role of Day Camp staff is to plan, implement and supervise small group activities, special events and field trips for children aged 6-12 years living in Toronto's Flemingdon/Thorncliffe Park community.
Job descriptions are divided into 3 categories:
Program Coordinator
| The Program Coordinator helps create a safe, inclusive environment where children aged 6-12 years old have fun, learn, make friends and develop life skills. Working with the director and counselors, they are responsible for coordinating many of the daily routines to ensure that camp runs smoothly. The Program Coordinator reports to the Day Camp Director. Moorelands City Summer Day Camp is located in Flemingdon Park, Toronto. |

| Hours |
40 hours per week; program runs from 8:30 - 5:00 pm from Monday to Friday. Some additional hours in June for prep work.
Position begins June 27, 2011 and ends August 20, 2011.

| Responsibilities |
- Assists director and counsellors planning, implementing and supervising theme days and activities such as swimming, crafts, co-operative games and drama.
- Coordinates and implements the breakfast and snack programs.
- Assists with logistics of trips
- Fills in for any staff that is absent or during staff breaks.
- Provides support for more difficult groups and works one on one with campers who need extra support
- Assists develop and implement behaviour management strategies
- Assists in training Senior and Junior Counsellors during training week
- Responsible for helping prepare and clean the program rooms
- Ensures that day camp facilities are maintained and not misused/abused
- Involved in performance appraisal process
- Assists Day Camp Director in completing administrative duties where needed
- Acts as a positive role model for day campers and other staff
- Embodies and implements Moorelands Camp goals, policies and procedures
- Assists director and counsellors with other duties as assigned

| Qualifications |
- At least 18 years of age
- Have extensive experience working directly with children aged 6 - 12 years.
- Have experience coordinating programs, activities or events.
- Desire and ability to work with children in an indoor and outdoor setting
- Proven leadership, organization and interpersonal skills.
- Be energetic, enthusiastic, patient and flexible.
- Able to work in a team and individual environment.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR is preferred
- Knowledge of the Flemingdon Park and Thorncliffe Park areas is an asset

Senior Counsellor

Working together with a co-counselor, they plan, implement and supervise small group activities, special events and field trips for a day camp in Flemingdon Park, Toronto. They report to the Day Camp Director. |

- Assist with the logistics and supervision of campers on field trips
- Help Program Coordinator deliver breakfast and snack programs
- Participates in camper arrival and departure routines
- Assist campers adjusting to the camp environment and help develop and implement behaviour management strategies
- Provide support for Junior Counsellors and volunteers
- Responsible for preparing and cleaning program rooms
- Ensures that day camp facilities are maintained and not misused/abused
- Act as a positive role model for campers and other staff
- Embodies and implements Moorelands Day Camp goals, policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned

- Knowledge of the Flemingdon Park and Thorncliffe Park areas is an asset.

Youth Leadership Counsellor
| The Youth Leadership Counsellor works with co-staff to plan and implement a leadership program for youth ages 13-14 years old from Flemingdon Park and Thorncliffe Park. The program helps youth become leaders in their own lives through workshops and activities that build confidence explore beliefs/values and facilitate communication, decision making, conflict resolution and other life skills. Youth Leadership Counsellors report to the Day Camp Director. |

| Responsibilities |
- Works with co-staff to plan and implement activities, field trips and workshops that meet the objectives of the Youth Leadership Program.
- Provide a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment where participants feel comfortable to participate in discussions and activities
- Assist with the logistics and supervision of campers on field trips
- Help Program Coordinator deliver breakfast and snack programs
- Supervise participants and implement the necessary behaviour management strategies.
- Complete and submit paperwork and reports.
- Responsible for preparing and cleaning program rooms
- Ensures that day camp facilities are maintained and not misused/abused
- Act as a positive role model for campers and other staff
- Embody and implement Moorelands goals, policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned

| Qualifications |
- Have extensive experience working directly with youth 13 - 14 years old
- Have experience planning and implementing leadership activities
- Have experience coordinating programs, activities or events.
- Proven leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Be energetic, enthusiastic, patient and flexible.
- Able to work in team and individual settings.
- Stand First Aid and CPR required by the start of camp.
- Knowledge of the Flemingdon Park and Thorncliffe Park areas is an asset.
